How to Apply for SDA in the Sutherland Shire

Who decides if I am eligible for SDA in the Sutherland Shire?
The NDIA decides SDA eligibility as part of your NDIS plan. No provider can approve it for you, and we cannot promise an outcome. In general the NDIA looks at whether you have extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, and whether SDA is a reasonable and necessary support. A functional capacity assessment and a housing needs assessment usually form part of the evidence. Speak with your planner, support coordinator, or Local Area Coordinator.
What is the difference between SDA and SIL?
SDA is funding for the building itself, meaning the accessible, purpose-built home you live in. SIL, or Supported Independent Living, is funding for the support workers who help you day to day. They are separate funding lines and often separate organisations. Edenbridge Living is the SDA provider. We supply and manage the home. Your SIL provider delivers the personal care and daily assistance inside it.
How much rent do I pay in an Edenbridge SDA home?
NDIS participants living in SDA pay what is called a Reasonable Rent Contribution. Under the NDIS rules it is worked out as a set share of the Disability Support Pension, plus any Commonwealth Rent Assistance you receive. It comes out of the total SDA payment, so it is not an extra charge on top. The rates are set by the NDIS and change over time. Check current figures on the NDIS website or with your support coordinator.
